Since these structures tend to be made of almost entirely natural and recycled materials, they are undoubtedly one of the nicest (and cheapest) additions you can make to your property. While some yurt designs are meant to live permanently on your property, others can be as simple as a few pieces of wood and canvas, and still others can be made entirely from recycled materials. As with any structure, the inside is just as important as the outside, so be sure to outfit it with a soft rug and some pillows to complete the look. Tent platforms — $100

If you're looking for one of the easiest and best ways to entice customers to stay with you, consider building a few tent platforms around your campsite. These simple structures add a warm touch for customers wishing to pitch a tent, ensuring that they will stay comfortable and dry, whatever the weather. But for the non-loggers among us looking to build one ourselves, it really is a lot simpler than you might imagine. Avoid tree cutting and opt for a cabin made entirely from recycled materials, or if you have a bigger budget, consider supporting your local sawmill. Call 'em up with your dimensions (we love this 8' x 8' cabin, built for just $300) and save even more by buying leftover wood from previous orders. Finally, don't forget to search local garage sales for affordable vintage furniture to complete your cozy cabin look. Before starting your new project, remember to check that your construction plans are up to code. Generally speaking, small and simple structures (without utilities) won't be a problem in rural areas, but it's always a good idea to check before you start! Whether you have an organization or not, you should start hosting campers with Hipcamp (it's free to advertise!)

99 S. Cottage Grove, OR 97424

Pacific Yurts has published a short but very useful guide to creating a platform for your yurt. Platform construction

Being what we call a "soft" structure, the yurt reacts more readily to weather conditions than "rigid" structures, so it's important to choose your site carefully and consider prevailing winds, tree branches overhead, water runoff, etc. 2.) 3.) 4.) If you plan to connect the yurt to an existing building (or another yurt), be sure to leave a minimum of 12″ between the existing building and your yurt's platform . 5.) 6.) If you are considering installing a “floating” floor on your deck, please contact Pacific Yurts for recommendations on how to prepare the deck. 7.) 2.) 3.) 4.) If a 118″ plywood floor is used, we recommend adding 2×6 blocking between the beams (four feet on center). 5.) Fasten the flooring (1 18″ plywood or 2×6 T&G) to 4×6 beams. 6.) 7.) Staple 2″ wide strips of tar paper to the edge of the flooring cut (or use caulking) to provide a seal between the flooring and the drip edge. Cut the 38″ exterior plywood (OSB is ideal for small yurts) into strips of the desired width (at least 8″) and fasten around the perimeter of the flooring so that 1″ protrudes from the floor level. floor.

Yurt Platform Building

Dreaded Yurt Platform

Now that we had decided that we were going to be yurt livers (at least temporarily) and had purchased said yurt, we had to build the platform in preparation for its arrival. We brought the plans and the wood to the Land, prepared everything and reviewed the plans. After a few minutes of looking at them this way and that, tilting my head, squinting, holding her closer and closer, I finally said, “What the hell is that f? @#k! Second, the plans were seriously lacking in basic structure - there were 36-inch gaps between joists in some areas. I'm no construction expert, but I'm pretty sure 16 inches is standard spacing. Also, there were no step-by-step instructions on how to put it together - not at all like Ikea. Although it took several additional trips to the lumber yard for additional lumber, footings, decking supports, bolts and screws, I was able to complete the decking - a decagram decking, could- I say - in four days.

Yurt Platform Design

The (D)Evolutionary

It looks like this:

This plan uses larger than usual joists, square on four posts, with smaller joists between them, reinforced with noggins. Four additional posts will complete the 'circle', allowing my normal 23mm thick pine flooring to be fixed close to the edge, which will support the weight of the coppiced ash frame.
